
Syracuse the Sicilian city
City located in the south-east of Sicily. Syracuse is an open-air archaeological museum, founded in the 7th century BC by Greek settlers from Corinth. Cicero presented it as the largest and most beautiful of the Greek cities of Magna Graecia (Greater Greece), it remained the capital of the island during the entire Roman era. Its historic centre is located on the island of Ortygia. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
